Extinction
The last centuries in human history have been marked by unprecedented scientific and technological development. In the infinite timeline, humanity moves increasingly faster towards an idea that models modernity ambition: the notion of progress and its benefits. Nevertheless, this period also represents the last centuries of existence of an enormous quantity of flora and fauna species across the planet. According to certain estimates, from the year 1800 to current days, an average of eighty species of plants and animals are erased every day. If greenhouse gas emissions are not reduced, it is foreseen that within fifty years, nearly a million species could disappear. The notion of progress is coupled to the reality of extinction.

The goal of Extinction is to move towards reflection about the destruction of spaces and systems that sustain life’s existence on the planet, of which we are part, even though we seem to forget it through our actions. It is a virtual reality project that takes as a flag the strength and vitality of an imposing animal species that, still, in the face of human presence, is shattered.
Extinction criticizes ambition for the exotic, the excessive exploitation and conscious or unconscious destruction of the only place where humanity can exist, from which nature it comes from. It makes use of symbolism that, through history, have represented opulence and progress in the Western culture, in order to contrast them with the reality of our planet and to question the path we follow as living beings. At this rate, the path of progress also takes its own shades for humans that are inherent to the verge of extinction.

This project is currently under development.
